Research
The research focus of the Institute of Educational Science is on education and counselling across the lifespan. Research questions are explored across various age cohorts (infants, school-aged children, young to older adults) and at different levels of access (individual, institutional, systemic) using methods of empirical educational research (both quantitative and qualitative).
Scientifically and socially highly relevant questions from early childhood, school, and vocational or employment-related areas are addressed through interdisciplinary and internationally connected projects. Internal university networking and collaboration, as well as cooperation with other universities and research institutions, are of great importance. Staff at the Institute of Educational Science actively contribute to the University of Heidelberg's Field of Focus 4, 'Self-Regulation and Regulation: Individuals and Organisations.' Many research projects are partially funded by external or secondary sources.
